Pollman, Barry : Regulatory Entrepreneurship

This Article examines what we term “regulatory entrepreneurship” — pursuing a line of business in which changing the law is a significant part of the business plan. Regulatory entrepreneurship is not new, but it has become increasingly salient in recent years as companies from Airbnb to Tesla, and from DraftKings to Uber, have become agents of legal change. We document the tactics that companies have employed, including operating in legal gray areas, growing “too big to ban,” and mobilizing users for political support. Further, we theorize the business and law related factors that foster regulatory entrepreneurship.

Introduction to the NIST GCTC DSC Online Reference

Thank you for visiting this site. The intent of this site is to organize articles, documents and other media, in a timeline fashion. Articles are tagged with a category making it easy to find a specific GCTC DSC study area.

We are currently adding DSC study topics from our Slack group that include Data Exchange, Use Cases, Platforms, Visualization and Licensing, among others.

GCTC relevant challenges for Action Clusters are included and tagged. Action Cluster updates inform the Data Supercluster Blueprint.

By sharing their Powerpoint/Slides, Documents, Videos and references Action Clusters can help rally interest around their methods, experiences and accomplishments.

The DSC and this site do not endorse any commercial application, product  or service. The information provided are intended for reference only. Community Leaders and Stakeholders are encouraged to comment on posts.

Yubikey Strong Authentication

Google and other high profile businesses are equipping their employees with hardware authentication devices. The section of our blueprint deal with accounting, account settlements and assuring long-term access to data points to recent developments in strong authentication.

We are exploring YubiKey, a hardware device recently given away with a “Wired” Magazine subscription as one approach to Strong Authentication. Please comment below.

At first, we sample f(x) in the N (N is odd) equidistant points around x^*:

    \[    f_k = f(x_k),\: x_k = x^*+kh,\: k=-\frac{N-1}{2},\dots,\frac{N-1}{2} \]

where h is some step.
Then we interpolate points \{(x_k,f_k)\} by polynomial

(1)   \begin{equation*}     P_{N-1}(x)=\sum_{j=0}^{N-1}{a_jx^j} \end{equation*}

Its coefficients \{a_j\} are found as a solution of system of linear equations:

(2)   \begin{equation*}     \left\{ P_{N-1}(x_k) = f_k\right\},\quad k=-\frac{N-1}{2},\dots,\frac{N-1}{2} \end{equation*}

Here are references to existing equations: (1), (2).
Here is reference to non-existing equation (??).
